Gary Conger is a contemporary artist who lives and paints in New York City. When the original inspiration to be an artist struck he signed up for a life drawing class at the School of Visual Arts because he wanted to draw and paint people. While waiting for the first “Venus” model to show up he began to make oil paintings of New York rooftops and landscapes from the beautiful places he's traveled.
There were over thirty-five wooden water tanks visible from the ninth floor and roof deck of his former home in the Flatiron District. He became obsessed with painting them from many different vantage points in all kinds of light, even at night.
Gary Conger currently lives in Harlem, New York with his beautiful wife, who is also his muse. The Harlem paintings have more distant views of water tanks but a much greater emphasis on the many colors and moods of the sky.
